Hi,
I'm looking for the following solution.....

A friend of mine wants to add a Crystal reporting section to his new webb application (written in ASP)

He cant use Crystal and wants me to write it, which I'm happy to do.......

The web app will be distributed to other organisations...

Is there a way of adding a reporting section using anything other than runtimes/active x etc etc provided by BO....which are bound by distribution/licensing agreements ?

I want the user to be able to select data using parameters which are hardcoded into the Crystal report and the user gets a prompt to select from these parameters (as you normally get when you run a CR with parameters)

Am I searching for something which is not possible ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated...
Steve

If you USE RPT's then you have to use a BO engine of some kind. All of the BO engines have some type of license restrictions or volume limitations. I am not aware of anything that runs RPTs that is not built around BO software.

Why not collect the parameters on the screen from the user and use them to build an ADO record set which will form the basis of the report?

Regards

Jerry,

If he is pasing the ADO to an RPT file, he still has the same problem of needing a BO engine of some kind.

Ken,
OK... If I use the BO engine what are the costs (license restrictions or volume limitations)likely to be ?

Assuming the app is sold.....

Steve

Depends on what method you use and what version of CR. See the licensing page on BO's site or call one of their sales reps and have them explain your options. Then post a summary here for us to clarify. Sales reps often miss some details.

Getting permission to sell a server based app with Crystal runtime in it is quite a bit of work from what I have seen. One option is to use ASP with the RDC engine and have the customer buy the Advanced Develoepr Edition of CR to provide the license to run your app.
