I am having big problem. I am running Crystal Reports 8 on W2k and am getting an error everytime I open my main reports. I get the error: "crw32.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. A log file has been generated" then the program closes. I am able to open most reports but the main reports I use are giving me this issue. I have tried opening my backups but I get the same issue. Even my backups from a month ago. I have already tried re-installing the program everyway imaginable. I have not seen anything on the Crystal Decisions support site that even resembles this problem. Has anyone ever run into something similar? If so how did you fix the problem?

Before you ask I have been unable to locate a log file of any sort that describes the unexpected close of C.R.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

I have had a similar issue in Crystal 8.5 under WinNT. If you can open the report in design mode, go to Database, Verify Database. It sounds like the database structure may have changed, and Crystal can't read the file.

Well that is actually the major problem. I can't even open the Database in design mode. Crystal gives me an error when I first try to access the Report file. I never even log into the Database. Any other Ideas?

try to recreate a report from scratch...does crystal even open in design for a new report? Jim

I can get into the design view for a new report but I need several of the formulas that I used in that report. If I could get into the backups I would be OK but even my backups from several months back give me the same error.

Well I guess I will have to completely rewrite the report. I have tried opening it on two different computers now. One running w2k and one running NT4 and I get the same results each time. Thanks for the good ideas.

Do these reports have saved data?

The Reports do have saved data on them, but I never see the report itself. I only see the mail Crystal Reports window open and then I get the error.

I have seen this when the report has extra large sections (like a full page backround image) and the section is bigger than the paper size of the default printer. It would open fine if you didn't have saved data, but saved data immediately tries to preview.

It might help to change your default printer (temporarily) to have a default of legal size paper in portrait mode. Or maybe change your default printer to one that supports ledger size paper. Then see if it opens correctly.
