I was working on a report two days ago in Crystal 8.5. I saved the report successfully when I left for the day. Now, when I try to load the report, Crystal simply crashes to the standard Microsoft Notification screen, followed by the error messsage 'The instruction at "0x73dd1351" referenced memory at "0x00000004". The memory could not be "read".'

When I try to load the report in Crystal v10, I get the message "The saved data will be discarded since one of more formulas failed to compile." before it, too, crashes, but without the memory error.

This has happened to me a couple times in the last few weeks. It seems that the file has become corrupted somehow, but I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas on ways to possibly revive it. Thanks!

I had something similar when we had Crystal 8.5 and anything corrupted was lost. I asked here but no solution was known. That's why I got into the habit of using 'Save As' to save versions that worked before changing to something new.

I agree with Madawc, Use "Save As" with Versions -1, -2 ,-3 etc. has saved me more than once. From PC to Mainframe and I don't care what the Application is, get in the habit of Using the appropriate "Save As".

Thanks for the advice. I actually DO do this, and I'm not losing a ton of work here. It's just that it's happened a couple times in the past couple weeks and I thought I'd see if anyone had any ideas.

Once a report starts crashing, it's almost impossible to resolve.

As suggested here, I make a new versioned copy every 1/2 hour or so, and this was especially true in older versions of Crystal.

You might also try opening it on another machine, it could be related to your install, but I doubt it.
