I have just completed a manual that a 21/2 inch margin. In a couple of sections of this manual in the margin I have inserted a small figure and a caption. I placed the caption inside a text box. Later in the document, I tried to cross reference the caption. It however does not appear in the list of figures. If I create a bookmark it does appear in the list of bookmarks that I can cross reference but the caption is not what I want it to be. I just want to show figure XX.

How can I get the caption to appear in the list of figures so that I can cross reference it directly and when or if the figure's number changes my cross reference will change also.

thanks for your help

To create a cross-reference for a caption in a text box, convert the text box to a frame by following these steps:

1. Click to select the text box.
2. On the Format menu, click Text Box.
3. Click the Text Box tab.
4. Click Convert to Frame, and then click OK. If you receive a messaging asking you to confirm the conversion, click OK.
