I just signed up with Verizon DSL and they are giving me 250MB (not much) free online storage. I figure to use it to backup my critical system files. Does anyone have any suggestions as to which files and folders I should be backing up. Thanks for your help.
Well, system files are going to run to a lot more than 250MB! An XP Pro CD is nearly 600MB and that's with compressed files. So your PC falls over, fails to boot up and won't run... How do you access your online storage?
I'd say this online storage is designed for your data files, documents, a few photos, maybe some music files.
Thanks for the reply, I have a full backup, but usually am slow to renew it. Since this backup can be set to automatically backup daily, I was thinking of backing up the registry, current projects and other critical files that could be used to update my full backup. Any suggestions for the 250mb?
If you have all your install cds you can reload the OS and the programs without worrying about a backup.
You might want to relocate the mail storage area so it is easier to back up and have a folder for storage of addresses, favorites, and cookies along with any data related to the applications you run.
Most people let applications set up the data areas but the programmers that write them generally don't worry about what happens when things go wrong.
It might also help if you were to document what you have on the system and where things are stored. Takes a few extra minutes to do it but when you have to reinstall it will help bring things back with less trauma.
