Critical Updates - unable to install

Hi,
I am using windows ME. I went to windows updates and saw I needed 2 critical updates - I click to install them and then it says "installation successful" etc.
But then when I restart or refresh the page, go back to windows updates, I find that I STILL need the same 2 critical updates. Tried it several times and still need those 2 updates.
The updates were: outlook express (KB837009) and Windows Media player (KB828026).
Any ideas? Thanks.

up to date anti-virus & spyware installed?

I'd run a complete scan with both (AVG if you need anti-virus, spybot & adaware - use both - if you need anti-spyware).
