Critical to backup shadow components?

MS state that shadow copies are not a replacement for a good backup strategy so don't rely on it at all for that purpose.
I take it you're using BackupExec? Shadow Copy Components includes the Registry, certain System files, the IIS metabase, and a few other things. You would need the Shadow Copy Components to restore the server back to its exact condition at the time of the backup.
