I'm running windows 2000 prof. I have an amd athlon system.

For some odd reason, my cd rewritable brings up a bootscreen EVERY time i try to burn a cd! It's driving me nuts! 100 bucks is a lot of money to spend on something that doesn't work.... I even payed an extra 20 bucks for a 3 year warranty, which covers anyh problems whatsoever...

The dumb thing is, all the stupid hotline number does, is give me a bunch of dumb phone menus! It doesn't have an option to talk with a technical support specialist or anything... Just a stupid machine giving me menu after menu....
I don't know if i have bad luck with cd-rw's or not...
But, I've already boughten an external cd rw, and now i got the internal one.
I can read from the cd-rw, but who would wanna pay 100 bucks minus tax for a cd rom drive? That's insane!
I've already wasted 3 cd-r's, with the same problem each time...
driving me crazy....

If anyone knows what the heck is going on, please let me know...

TIA

The first question is, what software are you using to try to burn CD-Rs? Although I have and use EZ Creator 4, many have reported these kind of problems with it, and prefer another offering, like Nero.

This could also be a problem stemming from a conflict between W2K and the Via chipset; look for the latest drivers and patches.

Good luck.

I bet you I could stop gambling.

Athough you contacted their phone support, you might be able to find what you need by going to their website instead. Reading is FAR faster than listening to phone support.

And 100$ isn't a lot of money. I'm still using my 4x SCSI burner that I paid 350$ for.

SCSI card bought seperately.

100 bucks is a lot of money if your 16, and have a job that pays... very minimum, along with limited hours (school being a pain)
But I guess I don't have much to complain about....

anyways, with the old external cd burner i used, i used ez cd creator (donno what version) but it came with the drive, and it would always lock up my system... I looked on downloads.com reviews and many other people had similar behavior..... THen I used Nero, and it didn't work either. On this new internal burner, i've used NTI cd creator, which blue screened me, and now Nero, which still gives same blue screen error.
One time, i did burn the cd correctly, or so i thought... (with new burner)
but when i played it in cd player @ work, it got to track 6, and then it wouldn't detect the cd anymore, unless i opened and closed the disk tray again.
Really lame...

I'll try the updates for the via chipset, thanks for the advice...
I'm running the k7vza revision three, with t-bird 1ghz 266 FSB if that is of any importance...

would using an ata/100 cable for both the cd rw drive, plus the cdr drive have anything to do with it? I believe both support it...

But then, of course, that wouldn't have ANYTHING at all to do with the external USB drive...

An ATA-100 bus with ATA-100 cabling will support any ATA drives, up to and including ATA-100; it is backward-compatible. However, I have read of conflicts which were based on whether the CD is on the same cable as the hard drive, and whether it is master or slave. Most of the advice I've seen indicates that the slower devices (DVD, CD, CD-R, CD-RW) should be on a separate cable from the HD. For example, my own setup is:
Primary connector - 40GB WD ATA-100 HD master, 30GB Maxtor ATA-66 HD slave
Secondary connector - Toshiba DVD master, Yamaha CDRW slave.

Your mileage may vary.

I always wanted to be something. I wish I'd been more specific.
