Unfortunately, I have inherited an older server running Windows 2000 Server w/ SP4 & SP4 Rollup 1.

When installed, they only made a 2GB partition for the operating system. Now we are having trouble keeping Exchange 5.5 SP4 running due to lack of space. Is there any files I can remove to create more room? Thanks.

sierrapacific,
take a look at:
any temp dirs (c:\temp, c:\winnt\temp, c:\doc's & setting's, etc.)
you may be able to move i386 folder (i know you can do on w2k but not sure about w2k server).
any of the backup folders from MS patches / service packs etc.
any other apps you can uninstall & reinstall somewhere else?
hth

Thanks for those ideas longhair, but I've already exhausted all those resources.

How about Partition Magic?
Find some down time, reparticion your disks for more space.
i believe the disk manager in Windows will allow some funtionality in this area also.

sierrapacific,
are the users mailboxes stored on c:\? if so have them clean them up.

longhair

If you have a linux box available, you could try:
ntfsresize

As an alternative to Partition Magic.

Let us know your results!

You can give C: a bigger partition without hurting any of the original data on the drive? The disks are RAID5 3 SCSI 6.4 GB drives. Will partition magic still work?

Have you moved all Exchange directories off the C drive using Exchange Optimizer?

Parition Magic won't work on servers.
You'd need Symantec Volume Manager or Paragon Partition Manager.

The former is very expensive but I have used it successfully for this purpose.

The latter is only $99 but I haven't used it. Heard good things about it though.

We used Acronis' Disk Director to enhance the space on a partition. It was about $60 and does work on W2k Servers.
