Creating a windows icon 2

I have an image of a phone. When I created this image in Paint Shop Pro, the image is of just the phone, and that's it. However, when I try to create a windows icon out of this, I save it as a bitmap, and when I look at it (in paint, not psp), it has a large white background.

How do I save this image (or alter it) so that when I save it as a bitmap, I don't have this large white background attached to it.

Try resizing the canvas in Paint by click and dragging one of the corner resize points of the white background.

To Set and View transparency when you're working on a graphic ... Colors/Set Palette Transparency and View Palette Transparency.

The easiest way to set transparency when working on a graphic is to set the transparency to the current background color. Remember if the color you select as background is included in your graphic, that piece of the graphic will also be transparent. To avoid this use Fill to color the background, opting for an unused color. (Magenta is often a good choice!!!)

Most graphic file formats don't support transparency. The usual format for maintaining the transparency when saving the graphic is GIF and for this you will need to decrease the colours to 256 ... Colors/Decrease Color Depth/256 colors (8 bit).
