I have rather a strange request. We have a VB.NET program which has been running in our organisation. It has been complied into an exe file.

We need to fix a problem with the program but cannot find the source code. The developer who wrote it has long since left the organisation.

Is there anyway you can create the source code in a Visual Studio project from the exe file in order to change the code.

Help!

Not to sound vague but in a few words: no, it will not be that easy. I have been in a similar situation and had to end up re-writing the application.

But it really depends on how the code was compiled and if the programmer used some form of dotfuscator or such on the code.

I am not saying it is impossible I am just saying it might be more costly and trouble than it is worth.

Hope this helps.
