creating a plugin for IE?

Hello all...

What should I do and know if I want to modify (or create) a program to run
in Internet Explorer as a plugin if one of its associated file is accessed
from the browser?

Something like what happens when you access a .pdf file via the browser, you
get all the Acrobat Reader's buttons, etc in the browser itself. Of course
if Acrobat Reader is installed on the same machine...

Any thoughts on that?
