I would like to know how to add a DNS record to my Windows 2000 DNS server.

I want mail that I send to a particular domain to use the MX record that I supply and not the one in the public DNS server.

SLB.COM has an MX record preference 200 that points to a non working mail server. I don't want my mail server to try to deliver to preference 200. I want it to go to preference 900.

What steps do I take in my own DNS server to make my mail server deliver directly to the address in preference 900?

As long as your clients point to your local DNS server then you can override the public DNS my creating a new Forward Lookup zone on your DNS server for "SLB.COM" then create the MX record(s).

Note, you will also need to create any A records (., www, etc) otherwise you will no longer be able to access their website or any other public services.
