I have a license server which needs to run to allow network access from multiple locations to a proprietary software program. Trouble is, the people who provide the software don't seem to understand what I mean when I tell them I need the license server to run as a service. I can put the program in the startup folder, but it won't run until someone physically logs into the server. This causes problems when the home office reboots the server at night and doesn't tell anyone. Is there a way to make a program run as a service? Another solution would be to automate the login feature on the server. I know that's a security issue, but it's less of a problem than not having the license server running. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

You could try adding it to the registry in the following folder location:

hkeylocalmachine\software\microsoft\windows\current version\run

Thanks, guys!

I added the registry key and will reboot to see if it works as soon as everyone clears off the network. If it doesn't work, I'll purchase the FireDaemon software and give it a try. You folks have a great day!

In the Windows 2000 Resource Kit, there is a tool called : Service Installer. It also comes with a Service Installation Wizard.

It basically takes any executable and mounts it as a service.
