In my VB6 apps I used to use CR7 and Adobe Acrobat Distiller to create PDF files. I have now upgraded to CR9 and use the inbuilt export routines to create PDF files. The problem is now pdf files have increased in size for example a report was 18K its now 132K and a 77K report is now 565K.

Has anyone any ideas on reducing the file sizes, I dont really want to go back to using Distiller or use winZip (not much difference anyway with the 132K file).

Thanks.

as far as I know this is the default - or await hotfix and see of size is reduced. We had some issues with 8.5 and after about 6 months they were addressed in a hot fix - so my advice is to report it to crystal - they do respond if you take the time to report and wishes to them.

Thanks for replying.

Ive loaded all hot fixes and services packs already with no change other than introducing a new problem (where some font sizes get reduced - already documented as a known issue). Contacting BO is my next planned step.

Please email me a sample rpt file (with saved data) so we can compare the resulting PDF file sizes using your code and mine (I have a special PDF processing step after the export). Be sure to specify the PDF file size that you get with your code using that sample report.

Cheers,
- Ido

CUT, Visual CUT, and DataLink Viewer:
view, e-mail, export, burst, distribute, and schedule Crystal Reports.

I have now found out the reason - in CR9 fonts are embedded in the pdf file whereas before it just referenced windows fonts.

Thanks for the offer but I dont create rpt files with saved data, the problem is not related to just one report, any rpt file with or without data gives the same problem. I think if I need to use additional processing I might as well go back to using Distiller.
