CPU speed problems

I own a 1400 T-bird chip running in an ASUS A7A266 MB. When I run my chip at over 1050 my system locks. I've updated my bios to the 1005B, which ASUS says will fix the problem. Setting the bios to 1400 still locks the system, and the system also locks at 1250. I've also attempted to set board to jumper mode and manual adjusting settings on the MB. I still get lock ups and occassional CMOS errors. My CPU is running at a temp of about 50 to 55 C so it doesn't seem as though the system should be overheating. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

I have the same board but i have a T Bird 1000mhz. my cpu temps are 38 right now. 50 - 55 C is a little hot for my liking. I suggest using a thermal compound, prefered, Arctic Silver 2. plus a real good cpu fan will drop that temp down. do you have a case fan as well??

it's strange, i went to the asus website and they said this board supports 500mhz - 1.2+ Ghz. does this board even support 1.4ghz cpu's? I imagine you already tryed jumper free mode? Can you boot into windows when you set the cpu speeds below 1050? sound like you might be running into either over heating issue's or incompatibility problems.

Are you running the FSB at 266/133MHz or 200/100MHz? With a clock frequency of 10.5 and a FSB of 100MHz you get 1050MHz. With a clock frequency of 10.5 and a FSB of 133MHz you get 1400MHz. Also, with a 1.4GHz processor you must use PC133 SDRAM or PC2100 DDR memory, unless you underclock it which is what I think you are doing by setting the FSB to 100MHz. Asus recommends PC133 CL2 SDRAM or PC2100 DDR in either case. The processor clock speed is probably locked at 10.5, but maybe not. So, running the clock frequency faster than 10.5 causes the system to lock. Make sure you have the correct memory and set the FSB to 133MHz and the clock frequency to 10.5. I think that will fix your problem.

i am having the same problem

if i put 2 * 256 meg 2100ddr in the system it hangs unless i lower the clock speed to 1050

if i use only one 256 i have no problem?

did you resolve your problem??
