CPU running hot???

Hi, I just moved into a new house that does not have cerntal air therefore my computer is running a bit hotter then it used to. My CPU temp right now is 53C (while im typing this thread). My mobo temp is 45C. This while its idle.

I have a P4 2.8Ghz prescott. MSI Neo2-P mobo. THe cpu fan is running at around 3550rpm currently. This jumps up severely during game play or when im doing something that is cpu intensive.

Is this a cause for alarm or is this temperature reading withing safe limits??

Well,

I would say that they are a little high. I would definately try to get them lower if at all possible.

Of course, no temps are too high if you have the money to "blow" on a new CPU.

Maybe a new HS or case fan adjustment could do you some good.

Do you have a "side" case fan? Make sure it blows the same way as your CPU fan. At first, my side fan blew out, and my CPU fan blew down, creating a "dead" area. As last resort, take off the side of the case and put a small house fan blowing on the CPU. I'll admit, when the room temp. in my computer room gets above 30c, the CPU temp goes up to 40c, and I have to turn on the room AC. I don't like to run the central AC, so I put a small window AC in, just for the computer (some-thing about what is important)!

my CPU runs at 52deg, and has been for the last year and a half, 24x7. No problems

Had a power supply catch on fire the other day though... too much dust clogging up the air intakes. It was really quite dramatic.

The temps sound safe. What temps are possible will, of course, depend upon the surrounding air. If you are not running central air, and your temps are around 85deg Farrenhieit or above, then plan to run a little warmer. With running central air in my home, I have a Gigabyte 7nnxp board, Athlon3200xp, msi 5900xt and 1 gb DDR400 Kingston RAM w/2 hd's 1 cd burner, 1 dvd rom, 3 case fans and cpu heatsink/fan with a 560 watt thermaltake psu sucking air off of processor, and my temps run betw 52 and 57/58 C typcally. I upped from standard to a thermaltake heatsink/fan and it dropped my temps to these temps listed, and runs very well.

The Prescot chip is The P4E model, this CPU is running very hot indeed. I use the P4 3.2 Ghz HTEE and this chip can go up to 69 C during 100% operation.It idles at 50C. So do not worry to much. I use a total of 7 fans to keep the case below 40C. I tested three of this chips in our lab and found out that over 69 C they start slowing down up to about 85C, then the chip stops operating. We also tested the same three chips without a fan, they cut out after about 5 seconds. the lastest Intel CPU's have internal heat protection and it should be impossible to damage them by overheating. Thanks guys for all your help.

The reason why im concerned is because when I was living at my odl appartment, my CPU was running at around 42°C. So once I moved to my new place, it Jumped conserderably along with my Fan Speed.

Aslong as there is no danger of my case catching fire or my CPU melting, then I guess its ok.
