This one strikes me as a bit odd.
I replaced the motherboard in my girlfriend's computer with a Biostar board (P4M80-M7) and Intel CPU (Pentium 4 506 Prescott) that I had hanging around. Everything else in her case is the same, with the exception of the power supply. The power supply she had did not have the 4-pin connector for the motherboard. I had an old one that did, so I swapped them too.
At startup, the CPU which was probably about 68f (20c) read 68c (which would be 154f). The CPU fan is spinning at 2400 rpm, so the CPU is definately not that hot. When I had it in my system, it ran about 40c under load.
Other than a dodgy power supply, does anyone have any ideas why this reading would be so far off?
