I have a machine that has been having some trouble booting. It wasnt detecting the IDE drives correctly unless you fully powered it off then back on.

So I went into the BIOS and loaded optimized defaults

As soon as I did this, upon boot now, I get 'CPU is unworkable or has been changed.'

So, I go into the BIOS again to manually set the CPU and the machine locks up. No response from keyboard or anything. This happens as soon as I get into the BIOS.

Help???

Reset the cmos/remove the battery and that should let you in to reset.

I did try that. It does the standard "CMOS blah blah blah. Defaults Loaded". THen when I go into the BIOS to try setting it again, it locks up just like it did before.

I also tried 2 other CPUs. Neither seem to do it.
