Hi,

I need to purchase a CPU for a DELL Dimension 5150C and I am a little confused to say the least. I have read that this PC can take Pentium 4 and Pentium D processors of certain specs.

Can anyone recommend to me which processor I can get for this ? I have seen the 'Smithfield' and the 'Prescott' but I dont know if they are both compatible.
Of the processors that may be compatible, I would be happy with the least powerful one as the work I will do on this PC will be far from CPU intensive!
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

From the Dell Ireland site:-
"Intel® Pentium® 4 5XXX and 6XXX processors with Hyper-Threading technology

Pentium D 8XXX dual core processors (no Hyper-Threading)

Intel Celeron® D processors"

I think you'll be safe with a Socket 775 CPU, Celerons to suit run at @ £30-60.

Best double-check this first but that's my take on it.
