Should work, for the price you really can't go wrong.

Cheers

If you are looking for a stock replacement this might work...but I would read the reviews...you get what you pay for. Granted it is an old CPU (Socket A I believe) but it doesn't seem to be as good as the stock coolers. Look at this:

It has a larger fan, you can't go wrong with ThermalTake.
Also this:

Cool looking contraption with similar reviews to the item you presented.

Just be careful with Thermaltake as they dont make many great products and most are decent or just crap.

Reviews always.

Hold on a minute. Their 850W PSU ranked best in class in CPU mag. Their V1 cooler is unbeatable, quieter and cooler than Zalman's S9700, the current king. I'm sure they have some clams like most companies but to call their whole product line "decent or just crap" is just plain not true. They have also been in the cooling business for a LONG time.

That cooler is small and comes with a 60mm fan which can be quite noisey.
For just an extra $1 go for this one! it has much better cooling capability and will easily cope with the Athlon/Duron 1200 where as the other cooler was only just adequate.

Note* the two reviews with that cooler refere to it being large, lol......
Large in comparison to other Socket 370 coolers (old P3 etc)
As far as socket A coolers go this is tiny and uses a small 60mm fan
Either wahnula's or my recommendation use a larger fan and physically the heatsinks are much bigger making them both much better coolers for Socket A.

Obviously BOTH are still considered entry level budget coolers but for a 1200 Athlon/Duron will be more than adequate, which is more than I can say for the original one chosen.

As for Thermaltake products: I have to agree with wahnula on this one! their products are at very worst better than average and generally speaking amongst the top 5, wether it be a ATX Case, cooler or power supply, their product ranges are definately amongst the best.
If there was a critisism of their product line up, then I suppose you could say that they are sometimes aimed at the "showy/geeky" lan party crowed rather than the serious professional user but that it no way implies that their products don't work, actually the oposite.
There products are often very innovative and push the techniological bounderies. Well Done! to Thermaltake I say.
Reliability? well as good as anyone I would say.

Thanks for all the responses. I'll probably go with Wahnula's advice and pay a little more for the Thermaltake. I've used other products from them and I liked their build quality (so far).

Actually the second recommendation (heat pipe cooler) from
wahnula was by far the best
A $30 cooler reduced to $4.99 is a bargain.

Thanks for backing me up on TT products! Have another star to put in your galaxy...[smile]

As a final note, I went with the Thermaltake TR2 M3 as they had one at my local MicroCenter. The other Thermaltake product that I used was this and it was for an el-cheapo server I built for my last job. This is the 3 drive cage with integrated cooling fan. Kept the HDDs nice and cool.

snorkel,

I have been looking for a device to add more drive bays to my "old fathful" no-name aluminum case, and here it is! I have 120mm of room under my current cage where the intake fan now sits, this device will be perfect for me! Thank you!

Us hardware junkies never know where we will find our next "fix"...

Cool - glad you found it appropriate for your PC. Funny how things work out!!!
