Coverting .psp files to cmyk tif files and losing colour

I have used PSP 6 to scan my photos which I keep in .psp format. My commercial printer requires these images in tiff cmyk format. But when I save a .psp photo in that format, the resultant image becomes dull (even when compared side by side with the original image in psp - you have to close the resultant image and then re-open it). Presumably there is some sort of tweaking that can be done through the cmyk conversion preference profile modification - but I'm out of my depth there and so if anybody can give me some guidance I would be most grateful.

Do you need to keep your photos in PSP format? I only normally store stuff that I have layers on in PSP format, otherwise I tend to use things life tif for photos because, as you say, they are fairly lossless. Having said that, PSP should also be lossless so why it's altering I don't know... My inital advice would just be scan it and save it as a tif. If you are worried about disk space, as tif files can be quite bulky, then just zip it up after scanning, and unzip when you need it; you can reduce the file size by about 40/50% sometimes. Which is nice.
