Hi guys

I want to keep a track of the volume of mails passing through my mail server. I have been using the logging function of exch 5.5 where it copies a temp file for every mail in and out. I used to then count the number of files.

Is there any way or any 3rd party apps the just tells you the number or mails sent / received.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

There is an app called MailMeter which will do what you're after. It's not brilliant but it does the job.

Hope this helps,

Do you run any SNMP management tools? I've used HP OpenView, SNMPc, The Argent Guardian, but any SNMP app works on the same principles. SNMPc is the cheapest I know of, but is also very basic, Argent Guardian is a good mid-range option, and OpenView is kinda like the king of monitoring - and costs an awful lot too!

If you do have one, the bigger ones usually have pre-defined rules for monitoring MS Servers, including Exchange (or parts of them, like MTA-In & MTA-Out). If they don't have pre-defined rules, you can set them up using the SNMP MIBs.

If you don't use SNMP consoles of any sort, then it is small 3rd party apps for you. Cheers,
Sam

Hi,
Yes there is many of them, but the most common way to do this is to get the information from the antivirus software.
You need a good protection for exchange anyway.
With for example Antigen for Exchange, you will get counters for internal and external mail, with and without attachments, and offcourese infected or not.
See for more information about Antigen.
I think all good antivirus software can provide this information.

Best Regards
