Counting Characters

I want to suppress a record based on the number of characters in a field.

i.e...

If the responsibility code is equal to 8 characters or less then suppress the record.

Can a formula be written to accomplish this?

Try:

len({table.field}) < 9

in the record selection formula to omit them from the report entirely, rather than after the fact.

Report->Edit Selection Formula->Record.

Or you can use it in a suppress.

I always include the trim function to get rid of the blanks. I don't know if this is really necessary. It may be a hold over from my old dbase/clipper programming days. I would write:

len(trim({table.field})) < 9
