Count of (Suppressed) Detail Records 1

Using CR XI...
It seems simple enough, but I can't get it to work. 8<{{
Specifically, I want to count the number of Detail lines (which I'm suppressing) and show it in my Group line. I created a Running Total Field called @referralCount, set it as a Count, Evaluate for each record, and Reset it on the change of the Group field. All counts come out as 1, but I know there are instances of multiple Details which should display counts > 1.
Perhaps I'm using the wrong formula technique...please advise. TIA

The running total must be placed in the group footer.
