Count by Background Color

Beginning with the 2007 version of Excel, we now have the built in ability to sort and filter by color.
Does anyone know if there is a function to COUNT the number of cells that are colored?

Surely you are not explicitly changing the background colors!

Surely you are using some kind of Conditional Formatting to shade you cells and thereby you could count, using a similar criteria.
