Hi,

I haven't work as a Field Support Technician, but i am very comfortable working and troubleshooting PCs. There are many different books available and I would like to purchase one.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Alex

What type of troubleshooting are you talking about? Hardware, or software? I'm assuming software, since you posted this in the XP forum...

After learning the basics, your best resource is the Web, in my opinion. If you get, for instance, the Exam Cram book for XP, and learn all the basic tools for troubleshooting, (performance monitor, event viewer, command line tools, etc.) most of the time you'll just end up using those tools to get some basic information and then go to either the hardware vendor web site (e.g. dell, hp) or the software vendor (support.microsoft.com knowledge base) and looking up error codes and specific problems.

Microsoft also has extensive documentation on XP, for instance, here is a link to command line reference:

Here also is the full documentation on XP:

Believe it or not, just about any information you find in XP troubleshooting books can be found on the MS web site.

I agree with what chipk posted. It also depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to get certificates to fluff your resume for a job or are you just trying to learn how to work on computers?

Repairing and upgrading PCs by Mueller. Good basics and lots of good tips.
It has been a while since I've looked at one of my copies so the title may be a little different. The book has been upgraded several times as micros have progressed.
