Alright, I hope the mods don't mind me posting this here. Our company recently acquired the assets of another company, which included a Siemens hicom 300 e cs 30ex with plenty of phones.

My boss here was wondering what kind of cost it would be, to replace our ancient Meridian system here with that.

If anyone could ballpark it for me, that would be great.

It would be cheaper and easier to just upgrade the Option 11C.

Really? Even though this thing is only about 5 years old and cost THEM over $100k?

Just throwing some numbers out. You can probably upgrade the system you have for somewhere around 30k. To install and program the Siemens the way you want it your probably looking at somewhere between 24 and 40 hrs of labor. I've seen the labor charges go anywhere from $80 per hr all the way to $150 per hr. So if the Siemens has everything you want and does not require any software or hardware upgrades then that should be your cheapest. But you need to check your area and make sure that you a qualified Siemens Tech. Just my 2 cents good luck..

First does the Siemens give you anything you need that you don't have in the Option 11C?

Second will you have siemens qualified tech deinstall and then reinstall the system?

Third you will need to train the user's to use the new system.

Forth a maintence contract may cost more on a larger PBX.

i've been to schools and installed both.. if one of my managers recogmended changing a nortel to a simiens it would cost him his job.. insane way to code a switch and i was a rolm tech way before i started on the nortel..

install cost would be around 200 per station in most area's. but it would be a expensive downgrade

I'd also investigate the number of vendors in the area that sell and service that system. When I started at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, they were actually considering a Fujitsu system for the near 3000 port system. There was one vendor with 20 employees and they never installed more than 200 ports.

There were 4 potential Nortel authorized dealers, each having sizable systems as customers.

Also looked at Avaya - but at that time, you have one choice for sales and support: Avaya direct.

Competition and customer base is going to be a factor before system functionality - a broke system with nobody to repair is has little functionality.

Just because they spent over 100K on it doesn't mean it's better.

i used to be a siemens DX enginner & when they tried to cross train me to hicom i told them to P**S off the guys that i know work on it dont all like it, stick with the meridianits far more flexible

Remember if it doesn't work hit it harder

Yikes. Not surprised by the costs myself, but my boss will probably **** a brick. I guess they will have to sell it off with the office suite as well and probably for a fraction of what its worth.
