Corrupted URL shortcuts

When I open URL shortcuts on the desktop I now get an error message that begins, "Cannot find the file "

http://...."

but the browser then proceeds to open the web site anyway.

What's wrong and how can I fix it?

I suspect that you had some spyware installed inside your IE at some point in time.

You can force a re-install of IE by setting this key to 0

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}\IsInstalled

Then go to:-

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/ie6sp1/default.asp

and

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/818529/default.asp

You may also want to download and run SpyBot 1.2 from:-

http://security.kolla.de/index.php?lang=en&page=download
