my outlook express is big , more than 1GB
Suddenly oe created new inbox , and i can no longer access my previous inbox ( more than 2000 masseges). It only opens recent messages from the new self created inbox. How can i recover my messages or the inbox.

Please Help

Two options open to you,

Create a new mail folder called inbox2

Go to your mail store folder Via My Computer, You can find this by clicking Tools > Options > Maintenance > Store Folder.

Copy your old inbox.dbx file to the folder that is storing your email folders, but rename it to inbox2.dbx before copying it.

Open outlook express and your emails should be in the inbox2 folder.

If that does not work you can download the free DBxtract software, this will extract all emails from your inbox.dbx file.

That was great. the first option worked and saved my job.The problem was actually on my boss' comp.

Another extra ordinary problem is, I backed up Appdata...{}...microsoft...outlokexpress folder from winMe comp.
then formated and installed win2k, Imported outlook messages
some of the folders which were full of messages before the process are now empty. I see cleanup.log file is also created. We lost teremondous amount of messages.

Is there a way out? "problems don't come single." I am suffering temporarly.

Please help

The cleanup.log file is not too worrying as this is created when the mail files are compacted. I believe this is done automatically, it should not delete any messages.

Are all the folders present that were there before? If they are but are empty, what size is the corresponding *.dbx file?

Yes all the folders are present, and are all 11k in size.
I don't know their original size but they were full of messages.

11k is probably too small to have any retrievable information. Do you have the originals that you backed up
If so what are the sizes of them? If not you can use the DBxtract software that I discussed in my original post to recover partial or full messages that may be left in the file.

This one doesn't jeopardise my job. We lost the messages.
I wish I could know the reason how such things happen.

Anyways Thanks once again for your quick and valuable responses.
