I tried to log on today and saw a message saying that my user profile is corrupt. In the corner of that window was a countdown. When I clicked ok, I was informed that XP will create a temporary user profile and, after clicking ok and waiting for a long time, I managed to get in. System performance is now horrible and all my programs need to be configured every time I log on.
Is it a common a problem and is there a utility that can fix corrupt profiles?

You can try using the System Restore utility to go back to a time when the profile was working fine.

If that fails, you may need to create a new profile using the User Accounts icon in the Control Panel. You may then copy files from the \Documents & Settings\OLD USER folder to the \Documents & Settings\NEW USER folder, to retain your Favorites, My Documents, etc.

Thanks guys... System Restore did the trick. Amazing tool.
