I have SQL 2K Dev Ed installed on my laptop. The IT person decided to rename my laptop. Now everytime I boot up, I revecie this message:

"your sql server installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with (unable to load SQLBOOT.DLL)."

I cannot start the local server on my laptop. I have already tried to uninstall and re-install multiple times. But it doesn't fix the problem. Can you please help. Your help/suggestion is greatly appreciated.

What errors do you get in the error log? How about the event log?

Do a Search and see if you can find SQLBOOT.DLL on your computer.

It should be in Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Binn

It's a 33KB file.

If you find it and it's not at that location, move it to there.

If you can't find it, explore your installation disk, and copy it to it's proper location.

thanks for your suggestion. the SQLBOOT.DLL is in the correct location.

Have you entered this error into Microsoft's Tech help or GOOGLE (or some other search)?

Failed to obtain TransactionDispenserInterface: Result Code = 0x8004d01b
