Need information:

User was in the database and something happened when he was exiting from the Microsoft database.

When I tried to load I get the following error:

The Microsoft Jet database engine could not find the object "MSysDb". Make sure the object exists and that you spell its name and the path name correctly.

It will not allow me to perform a compact or repair on this database.

Is there some way that this can be recovered?

Luckily I made a backup at 13:11 this afternoon, so I was able to use the backup.

How do I prevent this from happening again?

Help!

If necessary you could also try making a new blank db and import in all of your objects.

it's difficult when "something happened" but you don't know exactly what that "something" was. Happens to all of us.

Things to think about/take note of: Does it happen all the time? Or just this once? To various users? Or to just one user multiple times? Also you have to get as much detail as you can from the user--did their machine crash? or did they exit Access properly? Which button did they click? And do you have any new code in there that you didn't have previously?

sorry there's not a clear answer. If this is the first time it's happened, I'd assume not a problem unless it happens again. Is your db on a server? Server admin probably makes a back up every night. Also, if you have the db split into a front-end and back-end (do you?) then if the corruption happens some how in the front-end, you just replace it with a 'good' front-end (which you keep a copy of at all times) and the back-end (data) isn't affected.

Hi GingerR,

I tried to make a new blank database and import all objects into the new database, but it will not allow me to get past the error message.

This is the first time this has happened and this particular database has been used since October, 2004.

I perform backups at least 3 times daily and luckily I had performed one at 1511 pm and I just put that copy of the db over in the directory where the corrupted db resides. Data not changed much from 1511 till the problem occurred.

User not sure what actions he performed that made this db corrupt.

DO you know of a way to somehow set up a job where it will automatically do a backup of an Access database?

I will investigate further today to try to find out what happened.....

I use Iomega Automatic Back-Up and have about a dozen databases backed up at different times. Whenever I want them to be, I can schedule each back-up for whenever.

It's great. I have an external hard drive that this all backs up to.
