In Corel Draw 6, if I exported a file as a .dxf, (say, the number 8) and imported it back in, it would have a bunch of nodes close together.

In Corel Draw 11 it has about 12 or so.

I need to know if there is a way to have CD11 act like CD6.

you need to learn how to control nodes mate. Anyone knows fewer is better. Anyway... double click the outline of the offending shape then it will change to a dotted-ish yellow-ish line. you may then double click again on a point you wish to add another node to.
