I believe you have to use the keypad 'cause the codes don't work with the number across the top but does with the keypad. Works in Word too!

Yes, I have a PC, Win2000Pro, Illustrator 10 and I use ALT + 0169 to get the © symbol. But I have to use the keypad (to the right on my keyboard) and I cannot have the CAPS button activated. For ™ (trademark) symbol is ALT + 0153.
