Hi,

I'm trying to use the Windows Scanner & Fax Wizard to copy photos off my iPhone. As it runs through the process of copying the files it will copy a few and then displays the message "the current picture could not be copied". If I press retry it continues on for another few pictures and then displays the same message. If I keep retrying it will (eventually) copy them all.

I've tried the same process on a different PC and everything works without a hitch, so I have ruled out a problem with the phone and the cable. The same USB ports (I've tried all of them) work with no problems with any other device, or any other iPhone tasks (copying music, etc).

I've tried unplugging all other USB devices and reinstalling all the relevant drivers to no avail.

Can anybody suggest anything else please?

Tnanks,

Ed Metcalfe.

I don't know anything about the iPhone yet, but making the assumption it interfaces like any other deivice, why don't you try using Windows Explorer. The phone should come up as a drive letter, and under that drive letter (someplace) should be your photos. Just highlight them all, click and drag them to an empty folder of your choice - it should copy them all off (or move them if you so choose - which may require right click and drag rather than left click and drag).

I've never used the Scanner & Fax wizard to copy anything off a portable device before - it might just not like to do that much volume at once or something like that.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've given it a try and get much the same results. There are no error messages, but it only copies some of the photos (and different ones, in varying numbers, each time.

My Ipod Touch doesn't come up as a device... don't know about the IPhone.

I have to do everything through iTunes.

I *LOVE* my IPod Touch, though.... it's the iphone without the phone part (oh, and 32GB of memory... woot!)

iPhone appears in Explorer as an Apple camera...

I have a Touch too. :)

linney,

Not that one but I have tried other, non-Apple ones.

As it works fine on another PC I was working on the assumption that it wasn't an iPhone problem. The consensus on the iPhone forum I tried was that it was something to do with the USB drivers on my PC...

It's not the end of the world as I can still eventually copy them across, it's just an annoyance I'd like to solve.

That's another thought. Are you plugging it in to a USB1.x or USB2.0 port? Some USB2.0 devices are flaky when you try to use them in 1.0. Some work, and some don't work at all.

donb01,

It's a USB1.1 port. If that is the problem wouldn't it cause issues copying music files over (which are more numerous and much larger file sizes)?
