How can I transfer my email (4000) to a new computer. I am a genealogist and need to keep these. I also have many folders full of mail and need to keep these, too. Thank you...

The cleanest and least likely to cause problems will be to use the export function to export to some media (tape, cd, floppy) that can be used to import on the new computer. The same applies to your address book.

Older MS formats are mailbox.pst and mailbox.pab for filenames. Outlook 2000 and newer combine the address book into the same file as the email, outlook.pst. Save this file and place it on the new machine, make sure it's not read-only, set up your account on the new machine and import from the backup file.

Outlook does not let you browse to the backup file anymore, as previous versions did. It defaults to a new file on the C: drive. So you have to Import your old messages. Newposter
