Copy DB to remote server(security issues)

Hello,

What's the best way to copy a database to a different server without Microsoft Networking ports being opened.
Walk the backup over? FTP? Server's are connected by a DSL Pipe. As far as linking and all that other stuff that would make this easy, out of the question(Big Time Security)

Thinking along Tom's lines (I think), you could bacup onto CD-RW and walk it over, assuming the backup file is less than ~600Mb. Given your security concerns, it may be the most secure method.

If the database is really small, you could create the backup file, then ZIP it with password encryption, then FTP it over, then reverse the process. Even if someone were to intercept the file, it would be useless for them.

I somehow passed the 70-029 as well. A real bear. Not that I endorse them, but there were discussions on some cert forums where the actual questions were known, but no one could agree on the right answer! Now that's a tough test.

Yes, it's very hard to pass, but Frodos had most of the correct answers ;-) The Admin test is equally difficult and is 1/3 as long...

I've been half-studying for -028, but I wanted to get my MCSD first. I had assumed that the questions for -028 would be a little more cut-and-dry, rather than a lot of &quot;what is the best way to do this&quot; (according to MS) that I encountered in -029.

The questions are more strait forward, but they question you on a higher level than what transcender does. If you want good exam cram questions, go to this site and you will pass (only Robert, I can't say this for anyone else):

That's the site I was referring to when I said that dumpers had posted the actual questions and answers for most of -029, but even with knowing the Qs and list of answer choices people couldn't agree on what the right answers were.

You definitely have to be well-rounded in SQL Server to have a chance at passing this test.

Yup, but Frodos it the most consistent. His answers are the most correct.

For the admin test, I believe Batman's dumps are the best (he got a 1000). It's either his or Warren's that are the best. Use both of them and you will pass (Robert only).
