Hi
I've been running Windows 98se. I've recently installed Win 2000 Pro on another Pc and wish to carry over all my Eudora 5.1 settings, messages, address book and filters. I've spent a lot of time getting things the way I want them but badly want to get away from Windows 98se.

I've tried just copying over the data folder but, for some reason, my latest install of Eudora doesn't seem to recognise that it is there!

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,

I have done this several times and it is easy but time consuming.

1. On the old machine, create a c:\email folder
2. From the eudora directory, copy the following files there:

*.mbx (these are mailboxes)
*.toc (mailbox tables of contents)
*.tlx (spelling checkers, etc)
*.log (Eudora logs)
updateinfo.url (this file may not exist - it is the infrequent request to get the latest version)
descmap.pce (this is the map of folders)
dsquery.lst
filters.pce (mail filters index)
history.lst (email history list)
Eudora.ini (eudora preferences file)
*.ini (all other preferences files)
nndbase.* (these files are the eudora nickname database)

The following folders and their contents:
Any folders with a .FOL extension and its contents
Attach
Embedded
EudPriv
Filters
Icons
LinkHistory
Plugins
Sigs
Spool
Stationery

Next, go to your eudora shortcut and change the path from
"C:\Program Files\Qualcomm\Eudora\Eudora.exe"
to
"C:\Program Files\Qualcomm\Eudora\Eudora.exe" C:\Email
(or similar - replace c:\email with the directory you copied the files)

This should produce your mailbox exactly as it was, with history list, folders, preferences etc. and shouldn't bring up any error messages at all.

A suggestion on the new machine is to keep these folders out of the Eudora directory - as you then have an easy way to back up all of your email, spell checker, settings etc.

Thanks John.
However, that didn't work for me. For some reason. Spent ages on it.
Eventually, I found a thing on the Internet called
Email Saver Xe.

Got a free 15 day trial and that did the business.
Hope it won't rise up and bite me in 15 days time.

Thanks for your efforts.
All the best
