Converting quotes to inch marks in Quark 6.1

I have a Quark page that I originally created in Quark 5.0 that has been converted to 6.1. It has a lot of numbers given in inches in the text and on the screen the inch marks after each number appear as straight up and down inch marks (") but when it is printed out they appear as quote marks.

I went into Preferences in the area where you can check for "Smart Quotes" and you can also change the appearance of what you get when you hit the quote marks keys but it does not give you any option to change these to inch marks. I looked in the tech manual that Quark touts when I bought Quark Xpress 6 that is published by a third party called Against the Clock. However I could find nothing in it about this although since it does not have an index, it is impossible to find anything in it anyway. FYI....I paid $40 for this book and find it nearly worthless.

Anyone know how to do this?

Normally, Quark draws quote marks (depending on your prefs), but holding down CTRL while typing them will usually give you inches and feet. I say "usually" because it doesn't always work, but try it out anyway.

The fact that it's printing differently than what's displaying on screen, however, is a bit worrying. Have you zoomed right in to make sure they are inch marks?

There is no doubt that they are inch marks. I just did a new Quark document and typed in the quote key and got inch marks. If I hold down CTRL I get quote marks. So it is set up the way I want it. I want it to always be inch marks because they are correct for numerical measurements but also work as quote marks whereas the opposite is not true.

I think the problem in the existing document took place when I converted it from an earlier version of Quark to 6.1. However, why I am seeing inch marks and it is printing as quote marks is beyond me. I think I will just go through the document, highlight the inch marks and then delete them and retype them. That should fix it. Unfortunately the document has them in about 30 places.

Thanks for the tip on holding down the CTRL key. I wasn't aware of that.
