I need to convert pagemaker files to publisher 2002. I am completely unfamiliar with pagemaker, but have used framemaker (hopefully they are somewhat similar?). I know that pagemaker can be converted to pdf format and into html, but thats all I know so far. Can you help?

Unfortunately there is no way to convert PM into publisher. PM has some converters to bring publisher files into PM in a somewhat un-nasty manner.
PM can be converted to html, but it is some of the worst code you will ever see short of a geocities website. PM files can easily be converted into PDF's, unfortunately they cannot be easily edited at this point.
You best bet, if you absolutely, positively are masochistic and insist on converting to Publisher is to convert the text stories to RTF format then paste those into publisher, then place the graphics separately and recreate the docs that way. Do not try to get an exact duplication, as Publisher does NOT allow you to place text and/or graphics exactly where you would want to. In fact, Bill gates seems to be so darn sure he knows where and how you want you documents formatted that he has made sure that you cannot easily override Publishers defaults.
Of course, I am a bit biased. A word of caution: if any of these documents are destined for pre-press, then do not even try to send them a Pub doc. Yes, some will accept it, but they will charge you for set up and fixing costs, and you will spend so much more than the cost of buying your own copy of PM7.0 When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

Definitely keep it in PM if you're going to press. You walk into a print shop with a Publisher file and the people look at you like "sure, whatever you say" and laugh when you leave. Then they wait until you get back to the office to tell you "we can't print this for you in this format. Can you give it to us as a PDF file?" and there goes quality right out the window.

Apparently nitwits are deciding the standards for your company, it is sad when the technically impaired are in that position ... just inform them that PM CANNOT be converted to Word, it is a something that microsloth has decided that you would not need to do, or that Word cannot do... so if you have a lot that has to be converted, be prepared for a lot of tedious rewriting, unfortunately!
Also be forewarned that if any of this stuff is slated for pre-press, after they printers get done laughing at you behind your back, they willpad the bill and it will cost a LOT MORE in the long run as they prep this stuff for press.
