When I converted my Access 2003 database to Access 97, all of my linked tables were imported INTO the Access 97 database as resident tables, not linked tables.

Anyone know how or why?

My guess is that it's because the 2003 tables would not be compatible with Access 97.

Access 2K+ is backwardly compatable with Access 97 tables for linking but you cannot link a 97 front end to an A2K backend.

So, again just a guess, I think that Access (in MS's infinite wisdom) would also convert the tables to the '97 format.
