convert *.tmp file to original format

any idea if you can convert a *.tmp file to it's original formet. for example test.tmp to test.lwp

this tmp file is the only existing data and i need to recover the file from the tmp file.

Is this a file called "temp", or a file that happens to reside in the */temp folder?
