I once had this problem, a few years back, but I forgot the solution.
In WIN98, the control panel takes about 55 secs to open, nomatter what I do or restart.
Anyone remember this problem? And the solution of course.
Start in safemode, if it k then it is a software issue, if not it may be a bad windows installation (corrupted software) if so reinstall windows, if it is ok in safe mode use msconfig to isolate what software is causing the problem. Is that helpful?
Thanks, but sorry, not helpfull. There is nothing wrong with this machine, and as I mentioned, I did have this once before and there is an easy fix for it, I just forgot what it was.
Reinstalling WIN98 is not an option.
* Control Panel -> TweakUI
* Desktop Tab
* Click on Control Panel -> Create As Icon...
* Save in c:\windows\start menu
This lets you use Control Panel just like the Programs folder. It loads a lot quicker as well.
Although this doesn't sort the problem of getting Control Panel to load quicker normally, you'll probably start using this newer way instead. Everyone I know who has TweakUI uses Control Panel this way.
Sorry, although i appreciate the input, I need the fix, not a workaround. I know the TweakUI utils, I use them all the time and they are great, but not in this case.
