Control Panel -> Game Controllers app fails to load

Whenever I try to access the Control Panel -> Game Controllers app, it always takes forever and sometimes doesn't even load. It just says not responding on a blank window. I have tried Windows XP Home and Windows XP Professional and have tried running it in Safe Mode also. It does it whether there is a joystick plugged in or not and I have tried both USB joysticks as well as standard gameports. The hardware device manager says that USB and standard gameport are working fine.

64 MB nVIDIA GeForce3 Ti500 with TV-out and DVI
100 GB IDE Hard Drive
Taxan Ergovision 735 TCO99 Monitor
Creative PC-DVD Dxr2 16x IDE DVD-ROM
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy with Firewire (oem) / also tried Creative Sound Blaster Live!
Microsoft Windows XP Home / also tried Professional Edition

Look at this site. It sounds as if you need a chipset driver upgrade:

You need to explore this site for a little while. Is suspect your answer is there, but it may not jump out at you until you explore a bit.
