Is there any possible way to disable the control+D function in an excel spreadsheet?

heres what's going on...
got an employee that has a list of about [bold]20,000[\bold] invoice numbers, she gets a nice big stack put on her desk every month and what she does is a control+f to find the invoice then inputs the amount, then repeats process over and over and over and over again and again... yes, it's a very tedious monotonous process... anyway.. sometimes she gets fat fingers and hits the control+D without knowing and now there are 2 of the same invoice numbers and don't know which one she replaced over. or sometimes the amount is copied down, which if there wasn't anything there in the first place it wouldn't be so bad because she would eventually get to that invoice and put in the correct amount, but if she had already put an amount in there, she's screwed and the total is off and she has to try and figure out where and whats wrong...

wow... that was pretty long-winded and detailed.. sorry about that, but i just thought if i get the process of what shes doing, and we can't disable the control+D, then other ideas might surface...

thank you for all your help.

Have you ever considered using the Data->Form.. Tool in Excel?

Check it out, I think it would work perfect for what she is doing. [thumbsup2]

Select the top cell of the table and go to Data->Form...

Enjoy!

hey Mike,

Thanks for the quick response, I had never heard of this before.

just have a question about this form though...
as i'm testing it out before i go explain it to her...
I go to the criteria and type in the invoice she is looking for, hit enter... if it's below where i am at, it finds it just fine, but if the invoice number is above where my last one was, it won't find it, i have to hit "find previous" (alt+p) in order for it to find it. so if its above, have to hit alt+p, if its after hit alt+n...

any way other way to do this with as little keystrokes as possible? with invoice numbers like "3P9441M5", it would be hard to tell which is above or below where you are...

thanks,

yeah, it is... [bigcheeks]

but the gal that does it only has a few brain cells to spare, i was just makeing sure i had covered everything before i go try to incorporate a "new concept" in her daily routine.

i do thank you for introducing me to this form thing, it looks like it can be a powerful tool in the right hands/fingers [afro2]

k, looks like this is the best route to take. going over there now to introduce her to her new best friend.

thanks again mike.

Smiley,

Another option...

I've developed a file for you to consider.

After prompting for the Invoice Number, the data is filtered, so only the ONE record shows, and it takes the user to the input field.

If you email me, I'll send the file by return email.

Hope this can prove useful (perhaps a better alternative). At least it'll be interesting to compare the difference. :)

Dale, just a quick question on your code... does it search the whole sheet or just one particular column?

by the way, your code looks fantastic and works beautifully.

runs like a champ. [bigcheeks]

a star for you Dale. [smile]

thank you for your work on this.

Smiley.

Dale,

somethings going on with hotmail right now... so i thought i'd post my response in here... and i guess publicly thank you. [smile]

This worksheet is perfect. Thank you for all of your hard work. I have tested and retested it to see if there is anything I would change, but came up with nothing, everything works perfectly. She is going to love this. If I could give you another star I would. [thumbsup2]

Thank you very much.

Mike, no offense, your idea was great and she did understand it and was able to work with it, but Dales worksheet is a little more of what she is used to seeing. but thank you for introducing the form to me, i will keep it in mind for other projects.

Smiley :)
