Probably a dumb question but... When you use Select, Modify, Contract - how do you save the selected and contracted image? The image does indeed contract by the number of pixels I specify, but as soon as I deselect it, it goes back to the orignal size.

...select > modify > contract is used for live selections, to have any change on the image you need to do something to that selected area, for example deletion or copy to new layer etc...

...to save a selection for use later on, go to select > save selection, give it a name and you can either save it as a channel in your current document or into a new document if needed...
