Hi all-I've never had to install thia App before.It is a key selling point for a potential new customer.I am just looking for general feedback,strengths,weaknesses,gotchas,etc.
Also,how accessible are stored files that are backed up to say a CD-Rom?Thanks much-
 
It's not hard at all, just make sure you have IIS enabled on the Operating System before installing Contact store. Thats about it. Also, because its a web base application through your web browser, make sure the client pc's can download and install active x controller from the server. Popup blockers and spyware programs may inhibit proper usage of the software and limit connectivity of browser connecting to server. Good Luck
 
Also get an external hard drive to install it to. Then you don't have to do the disk partition stuff. Works great for me. and its easy!
 
Not that it matters to install IIS, but it isn't actually needed. It works in a similar way to Delta Server with the services
 
I have had about 4 sites suddenly lose there recording library. My advise to to setup a backup DVD burner and use it!

Restoring a backed up database is easy just so long as you have one lol.
 
Also personally i have it working here but i have found that some people struggle when trying to get contact store on a different machine to the vm server.

You have to create a registry key to poll the VRL directory but i have had alot of people who are using novell etc with problems related to the network being locked down.
 
Thanks for the advice guys-So do I install it on the VM server or not?Or should the VM server/Contact Store Server be a Server edition box?What does IIS do for me?

It can go on either, i would put it on the vm server on a seperate drive or partition.
 
Yes, u must install on the vm-server. Secondly, you do have to have IIS installed. Its in add remove programs, in the windows component section. Third, it would make sense to have a dvd burner for simple archiving. The software has a built in backup suite for archiving to dvd burner.
 
Super Jenks is incorrect.

Contact store does not HAVE to be on the same server.

You can create a registry key that will point the contact store sevice to a networked share which woul be the vrl directory.

The way contact store works is that as recordings are made they are placed in the vrl directory of vm pro.

The contact store service polls this location and pulls any files created into the vrl directory.

If the vrl directory is shared you can install contact store on a different machine and set a registry key to poll the vrl share. If there is a network outtage the recordings will still be made to the VRL directory, they just wont be moved until the contact store service can see the vrl directory againat whoich point it will move the files.

If something goes wrng here you can also manually move the files into contact with a procedure detailed in the manual.
 
Thanks so much guys-I am having a problem with the registry key.I try to amend the key in place by adding the final parts of the string and I get an error.
The HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE exists,but when I try to add Network\Voicemail\Directories\VRLDir I get the error-"The registry editor cannot rename new key 1-specify a key name without a backslash(\)"

Here are my Contact Store errors-I am installed on a seperate server(Windows Server 2003) and our network guy took care of the sharing aspect.

Your key is wrong, you have missed out alchemy. See below.

Installing on a separate machine from VMPro
To install ContactStore on a separate machine, you will need to

Make the Voice Recording Library on the VMPro server visible as a network share

Configure your security so that the ContactStore service can read and write to this share.

Create and set a registry key on the ContactStore server to tell ContactStore the location of the share. Set the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Network Alchemy\Voicemail\Directories\VRLDir to be a string containing the name of the share.
 
Hmm, good to know. I wasnt aware of the the registry key change. Is this method supported by avaya?
 
Yep the reg key change is in the install manual. One thing - I think I had problems with it was when I either entered the full share \\[computer name]\etc etc or g:\ for example - if 1 of those doesn't work, try the other! And for any changes to take effect, you need to restart the VM services.

SuperJenks - for your info, not that it matters, but you don't need to have IIS installed (it's no problem to install but anyway!)

OK-it worked for 1 call and then I started getting these errors.Does anyone know what to make of this?If I try and retrieve a cal I get "no longer available in online storage or archive"

Have you made the VRL dir on the VM Pro server a share? Make sure you can access this dir from the Contact Store server (\\[servername]\C$\program files......) or map the dir (f:\ eg).

Then create the key on the Contact Store server:-
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Network Alchemy\Voicemail\Directories - then in the Directories, right click, New, String Value and call it VRLDir - double click it and set it to the VM Pro server VRL dir.

When you are recording calls, you will see in the VM Pro VRL dir the call getting recorded as a xxxxxxxx.tmp (you will see it growing in size). When the call has finished, Contact Store will move the file over (and delete it from the VM Pro) and put it into whichever dir you have set in the GUI when you login as an admin.

The key you just created on the Contact Store server is already set on the VM Pro server - so if you did change that, that will just change where the .tmp file is created (so make sure you know where it is going).

The docs do make it quite confusing, but it is quite simple! Does C:\Program Files\Witness\calls exist on your server - as it seems it can see the files from your VM Pro server, but can't save them anywhere - have you set the correct dir in the GUI where to save them - from memory it you just type in a dir.
 
I had my network guy verify the Registry setting and the share.All the parameters are set as you say.The "calls" folder exists and was updated minutes ago.Yet the same condition exists.Could this be a bug?My manager is 3.2(54)
The CS is the latest from the website which I believe is from 06'.I did forget to downgrade my VM.I had everything up to 4.0 and had so many problems that I rolled back.I didn't do the VM yet.I guess I'll try that tomorrow.Thanks for the help.
 
This is no bug.

Try setting your contact store service to log on using the admin account as a test.

Basically contact store is having trouble seeing the vrl directory.

Is it listed as a share in computer management?
