Hi,

When I open A/M Leasing Batch List in Accpac 5.6 it constantly tries to install an OCX.
I'm part of the administrator group so it lets me install it.
Other users cannot install it and an error message is shown.

Only time I do not get this error is when I log on as administrator. Than the screen comes up straight away.

I tried regacc and regsrv32 but still the same.
Accpac is installed on a terminal server Winder Server 2008 which users connect to via RDP.

All other icon are fine. Just this one.
Any ideas what might be wrong?

Yep, I did.
They what they recommend did not work.
Then they said it might be a Windows permission issue.
Which it certainly is since it works under Admin.
Problem is, what permission is, thats missing....

Try these things:

Pull UAC down to the second to lowest level, look at setting DEP to not monitor accpac.exe, right-click on Accpac and set to Run as Administrator.

Thanks DjangMan.
Did not seem to have done the trick though.

When it downloads and installs the OCX it comes up with an Internet Explorer Add-on installer window.
Could it be a security setting in IE?

Possibly. The Accpac screens are ocx controls and IE gets to govern their security. Others have had this come up before so I'll see what I can find.

Thanks.
BIG problem now.

Nobody can logon anymore after doing the above DEP and UAC.
I get:
" Invalid user ID. The connection user ID specified in the system database profile is not valid"

In database setup I've tried to retype user name und database passowrd for system database. No luck.
What else could it be?

Check that you can connect to both the system and the company database in dbSetup

Thanks got a real scary moment there.
Not sure why UAC or DEP would have such an effect.

I've had a client where something messed up the passwords in dbSetup. No particular reason. 30 seconds later they are up and running again.

Hi DjangMan,
Were you able to find a reference to other users with the same problem?

I've tried now with disabling UAC completly and the error message has changed.
"It now says: An error occurred while copying file [1]AccpacAM1118.OCX
Cannot copy file to destination directory."

So it looks to be a permission issue.
I'm testing on a terminal server. Is this file to be copied to the terminal users profile or which folder could that permission relate to?

The file should sit in the folder where the rest of the Accpac programs are found. That file will be within the AM56A folder (or whatever version you're running).

Just confirm that your PATH environment variable only references a single version of Accpac.

If you can run it as administrator then it is a permissions issue. Make sure that the user you're logging in has full rights to the SharedData folder and sub-folders. Check the permissions on your share if you're using one (you might be using drive mappings). Try elevating your test logon to be a local PowerUser.

Does the problem only happen with Norming programs or does regular Accpac OCX files suffer the same problem?

The problem is only with 1 icon which is the A/M Leasing batch list.
Everything else works.
This is what makes it odd.

I'll try as power user.

It only works if I make that user member of the administrator group.
Even if I then change it back to Poweruser I will receive the same error again.

All files including the OCX in question exist under Accpac\AM56A.

You can run Process Monitor while you open some other AM screen and compare that to opening the problematic AM screen. Somewhere the Administrator's group has access to a resource and nobody else. Just not sure which file.

Since it is related to that one screen perhaps the rights on that file or it's dependent files need to be re-set.
