Console access to switch 1

Hello everyone. I have a Workgroup Stack Catalyst 1201 switch in which I am unable to console into. I use my db9 on my terminal and the RJ45 in the admin port of the 1201 switch, set the settings of my hyperterminal to 9600, 8 bits, no parity and nothing happens, not even if I press enter or space bar or any keys. Can anyone tell me why this is happening? Thanks.

Hi drae73

For the admin. port, you should use only straight-through, eight-conductor modular cable. Do not use CDDI or Ethernet cross-connect cables for the admin. port connection.

Thanks so much that worked! I never knew that, maybe because it's an older switch huh? I'm used to using the console cable. Thanks again.
